Meta product browsing will switch on for existing Facebook and Instagram ads from 28 October 2026 unless you opt out. According to a Meta notice reported on 15 October, people who tap these ads may first see an in-app page with product details and personalised suggestions before they reach your website. You can opt out through the notice before 28 October, or turn it off ad by ad.
Key takeaways
- Meta’s notice says: “Starting October 28, 2026, we’ll add product browsing to your existing ads” (PPC Land).
- Meta says businesses saw 3% more conversions on average in an August 2026 test. That is Meta’s own figure and the test design is not published.
- Opt out with the button in the notice before 28 October, or switch the setting off on each ad at any time (Relevant Audience).
- The notice doesn’t name placements, formats or objectives, or say whether new ads default to on.
What is Meta product browsing?
Meta product browsing is an Advantage+ creative enhancement. When it is on and someone taps your ad, Meta may show them an in-app page with product information and personalised suggestions before they go to your website. Meta describes it in the notice as “product info and personalized suggestions,” and says it “helps people learn more about your products quickly” (PPC Land). Ads Uploader describes the same experience as a personalised browsing page on Facebook or Instagram with product details and offers (Ads Uploader).
The feature itself is not new. Advertisers could already switch it on for individual ads. What changes on 28 October is the default: instead of opting in, you now need to opt out if you don’t want it on ads that are already running.
What exactly changes on 28 October 2026?
The information so far comes from the notice Meta sent advertisers, which became public around 14 October, largely through a LinkedIn post by media buyer David Herrmann, according to PPC Land. PPC Land published the notice text on 15 October. As of 15–16 October, both Ads Uploader and Relevant Audience reported that Meta had not published a Help Center article, changelog entry or newsroom post about it.
| Question | What the notice says | What it doesn’t say |
|---|---|---|
| Which ads? | Your existing Facebook and Instagram ads | Which placements (Feed, Stories, Reels), formats or objectives |
| When? | Starting 28 October 2026 | Whether new ads created after that date default to on |
| Can I refuse? | Yes: an “Opt out” button in the notice, plus a per-ad setting | Whether the button covers one ad account or several |
| Why? | Meta reports 3% more conversions on average in its test | How “conversions” were defined or measured |
The timing matters. 28 October is about a month before Black Friday (27 November 2026) and Cyber Monday (30 November 2026), when many stores are running their most important campaigns of the year. Herrmann publicly asked Meta to delay the switch until January, according to PPC Land.
Does product browsing increase conversions? What Meta’s 3% figure means
Meta says that, on average, businesses saw 3% more conversions with product browsing. According to the notice, the experiment ran from 6 to 21 August 2026 across roughly 117,700 advertisers in at least three verticals, including e-commerce, consumer packaged goods and retail, and the product browsing version “outperformed with >99% confidence.”
These are Meta’s own figures. PPC Land points out that the notice doesn’t define the conversion metric, the comparison design or how the average was calculated, and the result can’t be independently verified. An average across 117,700 advertisers also tells you little about your own account. In our view, a 3% lift is worth testing. It isn’t a reason to accept a default without checking.
How do you opt out of Meta product browsing?
Two routes have been reported. The sources describe the menu slightly differently, and labels may vary by account, so look for the wording below rather than an exact path.
- Use the notice before 28 October. The notice includes an “Opt out” button. The notice doesn’t say what it covers. Ads Uploader describes it as a portfolio-wide opt-out, but Meta hasn’t confirmed that, so repeat the check in each ad account.
- Turn it off per ad in Ads Manager. Open an active ad and look at the Advantage+ creative and destination settings. Ads Uploader says the switch sits under “Personalized destinations” as “Product browsing.” This setting can be changed at any time, including after 28 October.
- Check your best-performing ads first. Start with the ads that bring most of your sales or leads, then work through the rest.
- Recheck after 28 October. Open a few ads again to confirm the setting is what you chose, and check any ads you publish after that date.
Should you keep product browsing on or turn it off?
There is no single right answer. The comparison below is our own analysis, based on how the feature is described in the notice and in the reports.
| Situation | In our view | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Store with a large product catalogue and a slow mobile site | Test it | An in-app page may help people browse without waiting for your site to load |
| Sales close on WhatsApp or by phone | Consider turning it off | You want people to reach the page or chat that starts the conversation |
| Tested landing page with offers, reviews or a form | Consider turning it off until tested | An extra step before your page can change what people see first |
| Lead generation or service business | Check each ad | The notice names e-commerce, CPG and retail among the tested verticals; it doesn’t say whether services were included |
| Big seasonal campaign already running | Decide before 28 October | Changes in the middle of a peak period make results hard to read |
If you are in Lebanon or the Gulf and most of your orders arrive through WhatsApp or Instagram DMs, look closely at this. In our view, for these businesses the conversation is where the sale happens, so any step that sits between the ad and that conversation deserves a test before you accept it.
How to test product browsing properly
If you want to see whether Meta’s 3% claim holds for you, run a clean comparison instead of judging from a single week of results.
- Pick one campaign with enough conversions per week to compare.
- Duplicate one ad: keep product browsing on in one version and off in the other, with the same creative, audience and budget. Our guide to A/B testing in digital marketing explains how to set up a fair test.
- Decide in advance which result counts: purchases in your store, WhatsApp chats, or leads, not just clicks.
- Compare your own sales records with what Ads Manager reports. Our guide to measuring marketing campaigns covers the numbers that matter.
- Keep the winning setting and write down the result so your team doesn’t repeat the test next quarter.
If you are still not sure where a setting belongs, start with the basics: the difference between a Meta ad set and an ad, and why Ads Manager gives more control than boosting.
Why this matters beyond one setting
In our view, product browsing is one example of a wider pattern: Meta keeps adding automated options to Advantage+, and this is one it is now switching on by default. We covered another example in our article on Meta’s AI business assistant and ad agent. In our view, the advertisers who do well are the ones who know which settings exist, check them regularly and test them against real sales, not the ones who switch everything off or accept every default.
What to do now: a 10-minute checklist
- Find the product browsing notice in Ads Manager or your email and decide before 28 October.
- List your top 5 ads by sales or leads and check their destination settings.
- Decide which ads should send people straight to your website or WhatsApp.
- Plan one controlled test if you sell from a catalogue.
- Put a reminder on 29 October to recheck your active ads.
- Check the settings on every new ad you publish before Black Friday.
Frequently asked questions
What is Meta product browsing?
Product browsing is an Advantage+ creative enhancement for Facebook and Instagram ads. When someone taps an ad that has it switched on, they may first see an in-app page with product details and personalised suggestions before they reach your website. Until now advertisers switched it on ad by ad.
When does product browsing turn on for existing ads?
According to the Meta notice reproduced by PPC Land, product browsing will be added to existing ads starting 28 October 2026 unless the advertiser opts out. Meta had not published a Help Center or newsroom page about the change as of 15–16 October, so the date comes from the notice advertisers received.
How do I opt out of Meta product browsing?
Two routes have been reported: the “Opt out” button in Meta’s notice, used before 28 October, and a per-ad setting in Ads Manager that reports place under Advantage+ creative and destination settings (one report calls it Personalized destinations). The per-ad setting can be changed at any time, including after 28 October. Labels can differ by account, so check each active ad.
Does product browsing really increase conversions?
Meta says businesses saw 3% more conversions on average in a test run from 6 to 21 August 2026 across about 117,700 advertisers. That is Meta’s own figure, and the notice does not define the conversion metric or the test design. Treat it as a claim to test against your own sales data.
Will new ads also have product browsing switched on?
The notice does not say. Reports so far only describe existing ads switching on from 28 October, and they also note that placements, ad formats and campaign objectives are not specified. Check the destination settings when you publish new ads.
Should a small business turn product browsing off?
In our view it depends on how your sales close. If they close through WhatsApp or by phone, or depend on a landing page you have tested, consider turning it off until you have tested it. If you sell many catalogue products and your site is slow on mobile, an in-app browsing step may be worth a controlled test.
Does this change affect boosted posts?
The notice and the reports do not mention boosted posts, so it isn’t clear whether they are affected. In our view, if important campaigns run as boosts, it’s worth moving them into Ads Manager, where you can see and control the destination settings.
