ChatGPT Ads creative enhancements are an OpenAI setting that lets the system rewrite your headlines and descriptions, translate your ad, resize images and send clicks to a different page on your site, automatically. OpenAI told advertisers it will switch the setting on for new and existing self-serve campaigns on 30 October 2026, unless they opt out in Ads Manager.
Key takeaways
- What it does: rewrites headlines and descriptions, translates ad text, resizes images and can swap your destination URL for another page on your site.
- When: OpenAI’s email says Friday, 30 October 2026, but its help page has also shown 29 October. Decide before 29 October.
- Default: on for new and existing self-serve campaigns. Earlier opt-outs are kept.
- Control: one toggle in Ads Manager settings, at account level, with campaign-level overrides.
- No full preview: enhanced versions can run without your approval, and you can’t preview every variation.
What are ChatGPT Ads creative enhancements?
On 20 October 2026, OpenAI emailed ChatGPT advertisers to say it would turn on a feature called creative enhancements. Search Engine Roundtable, which received the email, quoted it: “Starting Friday, October 30, 2026, we’ll enable creative enhancements for your new and existing self-serve campaigns.” (Search Engine Roundtable)
According to Search Engine Roundtable’s report of the email, these ads “can run automatically without requiring you to review or approve each version.” In plain terms, OpenAI’s system takes the ad you wrote and the page it links to, then produces versions it thinks fit the conversation better. Reports say those versions can be prepared in advance or generated in real time based on the conversation.

What exactly can OpenAI change in your ads?
Search Engine Roundtable, PPC Land and Relevant Audience all describe the same four types of change (PPC Land, Relevant Audience):
| Change | What OpenAI’s system can do | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Headlines and descriptions | Create new or updated text based on your ad, your landing page and the conversation | Claims, prices, legal wording and brand tone |
| Translation | Translate your ad text into another language | Quality of the translation and whether the landing page speaks that language |
| Image resizing | Resize your images to fit ad formats | Logos, text on images and product details that could be cropped |
| Destination URL | Send clicks to a different relevant page on your site | Tracking (UTMs), lead forms and pages you never meant to advertise |
PPC Land, describing a screenshot of the setting published by Search Engine Roundtable, reports that one toggle covers all four types of change. You can’t keep image resizing and block rewritten copy, for example.
OpenAI already uses AI to help build ads: see our explainer on its image-generation ad format for ChatGPT. The difference here is that the changes happen after you’ve written the ad, and by default.
When does it start: 29, 30 or 31 October?
The date has moved around in OpenAI’s own material, which is why we recommend acting early:
| Source | Date shown | Reported by |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI email to advertisers (20 October) | Friday, 30 October 2026 | Search Engine Roundtable, 20 October |
| OpenAI help page (checked 21 October) | Thursday, 29 October 2026 | PPC Land, 21 October |
| OpenAI help page (checked 23 October) | “Thursday, October 31” (31 October 2026 is a Saturday) | Relevant Audience, 23 October |
Relevant Audience advises opting out before 29 October, the earliest date any OpenAI source has shown. We agree: if you want it off, switch it off now rather than on the day.
How do you opt out of ChatGPT Ads creative enhancements?
Based on OpenAI’s email and the published screenshots, these are the steps:
- Sign in to ChatGPT Ads Manager at ads.openai.com.
- Open the account Settings section and find the Creative enhancement toggle. It is on by default.
- Switch it off to set the account default.
- Open each active campaign and check its own setting. Campaign-level settings take priority over the account default, according to OpenAI’s email.
- Note the date and who changed it, so your team knows the account’s status.
If you opted out before, OpenAI’s email says existing account and campaign opt-outs will be kept. It also says you can change the setting “at any time in Ads Manager”, so turning it off now doesn’t stop you testing it later.
Should you keep creative enhancements on or turn them off?
There’s no single right answer. Here is how we’d decide, based on the risks Relevant Audience highlights and our own experience running ads:
| Your situation | In our view |
|---|---|
| Regulated category (health, finance, real estate, education claims) | Turn it off. Rewritten claims could break the rules you work under. |
| Copy approved by legal, a client or a brand team | Turn it off. Approved wording should stay approved wording. |
| One landing page with a form or a specific offer page | Turn it off, or watch closely. URL swaps can send people to pages that don’t convert or aren’t tracked. |
| Ads in one language for one market | Lean towards off until you can review translated versions. |
| Testing budget and a broad e-commerce catalogue | Consider testing it in one campaign, with a similar campaign kept off for comparison. |
Practitioners are split. Search Engine Roundtable quotes Anthony Higman, who was highly critical of the change, and Melissa Mackey, who said she had already paused her ChatGPT Ads test because of poor lead quality. These are two people’s views, not a survey, but they show why some advertisers are cautious.
What will you see in ChatGPT Ads reporting?
According to the reporting by PPC Land and Relevant Audience, OpenAI’s help page lists standard metrics at campaign, ad group and ad level: impressions, clicks, spend, click-through rate and attributed conversions. Relevant Audience notes OpenAI says these metrics alone can’t show the effect of enhancements, and PPC Land notes that neither OpenAI source describes reporting that shows which version of an ad ran.
That makes your own tracking more important. Make sure every page on your site that could receive traffic keeps your UTM parameters and has analytics installed. Our guide on tracking ChatGPT traffic in GA4 shows how to separate ChatGPT visits from other sources.
OpenAI also states that ads do not influence ChatGPT’s answers, according to Relevant Audience’s summary of the help page. The enhancements change your ad, not the reply the user reads.
What does this mean for marketers in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf?
OpenAI’s material doesn’t say which languages or markets the enhancements cover, so check what you see in your own account. In our view, the translation option deserves the most attention in our region: many brands here write separate Arabic and English ads on purpose, with different wording for each audience. An automatic translation could undo that work.
The pattern matters beyond ChatGPT. Meta and Google also keep adding AI features that change ads by default, as we covered in our article on Meta Advantage+ creative and its new AI terms. Knowing where these settings live, and checking them every few weeks, is now part of the job of anyone who runs ads. What to do now
- Log in to ChatGPT Ads Manager before 29 October and check the Creative enhancement toggle.
- Decide per campaign: off for approved, regulated or single-page campaigns.
- Check every campaign’s own setting, not only the account default.
- Make sure all pages on your site that could receive ad clicks have tracking installed.
- If you keep it on, review results weekly and compare with a campaign where it is off.
- Put a reminder in your calendar to recheck the setting, since OpenAI’s dates and details have already changed once.
Frequently asked questions
What are ChatGPT Ads creative enhancements?
They are an OpenAI setting that lets its system adapt your ChatGPT ads automatically. It can rewrite headlines and descriptions, translate ad text, resize images and send clicks to a different page on your site, using your existing ad, your landing page and the conversation as inputs.
When do ChatGPT Ads creative enhancements turn on?
OpenAI’s 20 October email to advertisers says Friday, 30 October 2026. Its help page has shown other dates since then, including 29 October, so the safe move is to decide on your setting before 29 October.
How do I turn off creative enhancements in ChatGPT Ads?
Open Ads Manager, go to Settings, and switch the “Creative enhancement” toggle off at account level. Then check each campaign, because campaign-level settings override the account default.
Can I keep translation but block rewritten headlines?
Not according to reports so far. Based on Search Engine Roundtable’s screenshot, as described by PPC Land, one toggle covers all four types of change, so it is all or nothing.
Will OpenAI show me every version of my ad?
No. OpenAI’s help page says you can’t preview every variation, and its email says enhanced versions can run without you approving each one.
Does this affect ChatGPT’s answers?
OpenAI states that ads do not influence ChatGPT’s answers. The enhancements change how your ad is written and where it sends people, not what ChatGPT says in its reply.
Should I opt out of ChatGPT Ads creative enhancements?
In our view, opt out if your copy needs legal or brand approval, you work in a regulated category, or every click must land on one specific page. If none of that applies, you can test it in one campaign and compare results with a campaign where it is off.
